Party Themes For Teens

Your teen's birthday is pretty close and you are probably thinking of what party themes you should have. Be rest assured that party themes are not difficult to think of and which a little help in the right direction you shouldn't have a problem finding a theme. If you watch television and you read magazines there are possible thousands of themes you can come up with. When it comes to party themes let your imagination run wild.

The Survivor Theme

The popular reality television series has lately also been adapted into a party theme for teenagers. Kids dress up in survivor like outfits and take part in various challenges and competitions. For instance some kids will be given the task of building tent of the material supplied to them, and later test it for sturdiness. The opposing tribe of kids will be responsible for taking down the tents by throwing buckets of water on them to simulate a tropical storm. Order kids can be put to the task of building a relay system to fill bottled water etc. the idea here is to get kids involved in solving various real life challenges like those faced on the television show.

You can also plan a scavenger hunt. You can hide useful items and tools in various locations, including food and other necessities. People really love the survivor theme especially if you decorate for it in a special way. You can hang grass skirts, and Hawaiian leis etc to give the place a more tropical look. Also serve a number of tropical dishes to fit in with the theme. Great dishes for this theme include mangos, chicken with rice and pine apples etc. don't forget to add a few tiny umbrellas to the drinks you serve at the party. Arranging such a theme is also not difficult it just requires a bit of imagination.

The golden oldies

Teens of all ages love to dress up and have fun so better way than to host a golden oldies party for them. The time can either be the 40's 50's or the 60's and every one can be dressed in costumes that reflect those eras. You can even have kids dressed up as Victorians for a really old golden oldie special birthday party theme. However the good thing about the 50s and the 60s themes is it's easy to find music of these eras. People mostly go for music of the great king Elvis Presley or you can also choose Frank Sinatra however the later didn't sing party songs. If you are looking for something funkier you can have a 1960's party. Go ahead and purchase the Woodstock soundtrack that will fill your party with amusing music. Have kids dressed in bell bottoms and tie and die T-shirts, girls can be dressed in mini skirts and probably also an afro wig and large glasses. Couple that with bangles and head scarves and that will complete the look. If you don't know what to wear just pickup an old movie and you should get enough ideas.

Making Your Own Herbal Hair Shampoo

In 1990 I decided not to use the commercially made shampoos after reading Aubrey Hampton's book, "Natural Organic Hair and Skin Care." In this book Aubrey tells you how to read the label on any product that you put on your skin or hair.

Manufacturers are constantly using toxic chemicals in their skin and hair products and disregard their toxic effects on your body. This is easily seen in the list of chemicals that they use. Here are a few of these chemicals found in many product labels:

* propylene glycol or glycol- a petrochemical used because it is cheap
* cetearyl alcohol - emulsifier that can be synthetic or natural
* methylparaben or propylparaben - typical synthetic preservatives
* distearate - this is polyethylene glycol or polypropylene glycol which are petrochemicals
* isopropyl alcohol - used as a cheap solvent to carry synthetic oils.

Here is a natural shampoo that you can make. This formulation is something that I have been using for many years. First collect the following items:

4 oz of castile soap with any scent is that available - plain, peppermint, eucalyptus.

½ oz of rosemary - stimulates the hair follicles and helps to prevent premature baldness

½ oz of sage - has antioxidants and keeps things from spoiling and is antibacterial

½ oz of nettles - acts as a blood purifier, blood stimulator, contains a large source of nutrients for hair growth

½ of lavender - controls the production of sebaceous gland oil and reduces itchy and flaky scalp conditions

2000 mg of MSM - provides organic sulfur to your scalp, which improves the health and strength of your hair. It also helps to drive herbal nutrient into the skin and follicles where they can do the most good.

One empty 8 oz plastic bottle, or any other empty shampoo or soap bottle.

Mix the herbs in a mason jar, which has a lid. Boil 2 cups of distilled water. Add 3 heaping tablespoons of the mixed herbs into the boiling water. Pull the boiling water and herbs off the stove. Let the herb mixture sit for 30 - 40 minutes. Put the 2000mg of MSM into the herb mixture after 30 minutes of cooling. After 40 minutes and the MSM is melted, strain the herbal mixture into a bowl.

Pour 2 to 2 1/2 oz of strained herbal tea into the 8 oz plastic bottle. Now, pour the 4 oz of castile soap into the 8 oz plastic bottle. Cap the bottle and shake to mix the ingredients.

The shampoo is now finished and ready for use. Use this as a base for all of the shampoos you make. You can add different herbs as you learn what these herbs do and how they help your hair. You can vary the ingredients according to your taste. But now you have a shampoo that has no additives that can harm you.

African American Front Lace Wigs Create a Natural Look

afro wigs

African American front lace wigs are some of the most popular wigs for African American Women. Why? They are the most natural-looking. In fact, our favorite celebrities who wear wigs - like Tyra Banks and Beyonce - prefer African American front lace wigs.

Wait... back up... Tyra Banks and Beyonce wear wigs? Hey, just about everyone in Hollywood has donned hair that is not her own at some point or another! It is just that they wear African American front lace wigs, and that is why you can't tell. These wigs just look so natural!

So, why do these front lace wigs look so natural? Well, first of all, let it be said that full lace wigs look even more natural than front lace wigs - full lace wigs can be styled in many different ways and even worn up in ponytails without looking like a wig. This is because the hairs of full lace wigs (and front lace wigs) are individually tied to the lace.

When hairs are individually tied to the lace, they can be placed perfectly. They can fall naturally. And the lace blends right in with your scalp, so your scalp can show through, making the wigs look even more natural. In fact, that is one of the reasons that many women prefer African American front lace wigs - because of the natural hairlines the create.

In fact, some of the more expensive African American front lace wigs have baby hairs tied into the front of the wig - these are the hairs that we sometimes do not want when we are not wearing a wig, but they are the hairs that, when added, make the wigs look most natural.

There are different ways that a woman can attach an African American front lace wig to her head. First of all, if she has long hair, it should be braided. Shorter hair can simply be placed beneath a wig cap - a wig cap can be a basic knee high with the elastic cut off (in a color similar to your skin tone).

To fully attach the African American front lace wig to her head, a woman can apply a wig-specific liquid adhesive just around the perimeter of her hairline - it should not touch her hair. Some use adhesive tapes (again, specifically designed for use with wigs). These work especially well for women who are bald (because of chemotherapy, etc.) Instead of adhesive, some women may simply clip the wig to their naturally growing hair.

Of course, you must realize that African American front lace wigs do cost more. After all, it can take a wigmaker many hours to tie each hair to the lace and to style it. Also, many African American front lace wigs are made with 100% human hair which can be more expensive (of course the most expensive hair is unprocessed, or Remy hair).

Wigs: A History of Being a Utilitarian Fashion Statement

wigs have been recognized as being a useful fashion accessory since they were used by the Ancient Egyptians. The Egyptians used wigs for the main purpose of protecting their heads, which were commonly shaved, from the sun. Other ancient civilizations also wore wigs including the Phoenicians, the Greeks and the Romans. It is interesting to note that ancient civilizations of the Far East, including Japan and China, did not utilize wigs for everyday use, but instead only for traditional theater performances.

Between the fall of the Roman Empire and the 16th Century, wigs were not a part of the fashion scene or an item of sun protection. After the 16th Century, however, there was a big upswing in the use of wigs. Wigs served as a means of compensating for baldness. Wigs were seen as a means of improving one's own personal appearance, a mask of sorts that allowed for one to appear more aesthetically pleasing. One main reason that wigs became so popular in early England was much more basic than looking good. Instead, because the English lived in a dirty, cluttered and very unsanitary conditions, head lice became a real nuisance. Oftentimes people would shave their natural head to keep it from attracting head lice and replace it with a wig, which was much easier to de-louse.

Queen Elizabeth I, became famous for her tightly curled red wig. King Louis XIII of France, made wearing wigs more popular for those of the male gender and the trend continued. In fact, wig is a shortened version of the word periwig which was the name of the artificial shoulder-length or longer hair that became fashionable after Charles II was restored to the throne in 1660. Periwigs, also known as perukes, became so popular that they became a sign of status and power and soon became a staple of the English Court.

The wearing of wigs continues in many countries and cultures. In many, the wigs are a symbol of social status or class. Today, wigs are often seen more as a matter of convenience. They are easy to style ahead of time and hold in waiting until one needs them. In addition, they are an accepted remedy to baldness caused for various medical reasons. Of course, wigs are still worn today as a sign of status or for aesthetic attention. Celebrities like Cher or Dolly Parton have based a great deal of their star image upon their use of wigs. Whether they are for use in altering appearance or enhancing their appearance, wigs remain a utilitarian part of the popular culture of fashion.
